Salisbury Steak






1 – 1/2 to 2 lbs ground beef

1 cup French onion soup

1 cup sliced mushrooms

1/2 cup low carb breadcrumbs or almond flour

1/4 cup reduced sugar ketchup

1/4 cup water or beef au jus

1 egg

2 to 3 tsp corn starch or flour

1 to 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/2 tsp mustard powder

spices for light seasoning


In a large bowl, mix together 1/3 cup French onion soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg and seasonings.

Shape into 4 to 6 patties.

Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Grease with butter when skillet is hot. Brown both sides of patties and set aside.

Note: Reserve 1/4 cup of the beef au jus from the browned patties for the gravy.

In the same skillet, over medium heat, blend cornstarch and remaining soup until smooth.

Mix in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder and au jus or water.

Allow gravy to thicken then add mushrooms.

Return patties to skillet and spoon gravy over meat in skillet.

Cover and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.


Serves 4 to 6.
